Arnold Shives' practice includes painting, wall sculpture and
printmaking. He has also been involved in several artist's book
projects. He lives in British Columbia. His works include dry
point monotypes, pastels, and mixed media paintings.
Shives' assemblages reveal some of his history as a
printmaker. The dreamlike landscape forms have developed
over the years through his linocuts, the later 'carpentered'
plywood and the more current use of oil-painted board,
monotype transfer and perforated steel. There is a fairytale-like
narrative in the mysterious and enigmatic tree and foliage
forms. Shives is a Master Printmaker.
